Are you interested in trying something new?  Would you like to get to know other WMS students?  Do you like to help others or contribute to your school community?  If any of these ideas interest you, consider getting involved in a WMS club!  Below is information about each club and how to get involved.

be nice. - The purpose of the be nice. Leadership Chapter is to bring unity for your school. The be nice. initiative is driven by student leaders, empowering them to become difference-makers and unifiers. Leaders are educated regarding bullying, mental health, and suicide prevention. The leadership chapter will then create a plan of action for bringing the positive message of be nice. to their school and community. With the guidance of the coordinator, they will organize and plan a school-wide assembly. They will also meet periodically for the rest of the school year to help plan follow-up activities. Previous activities include helping design mental health lessons and outreach, helping teach peers coping skills, and bringing awareness to ending bullying. Model United Nations (MUN) - Model UN is a simulation of UN organizations such as the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, UNICEF, and others. Its participants take the roles of ambassadors from various countries and debate current issues. Model UN was developed in the 1950s as a way to give students hands-on learning in international relations, diplomacy, and the United Nations. Over 400,000 students around the world participate in Model UN each year.

If you are looking for hands-on experiences with politics and current events, MUN is the club for you. 

 

Peer Assistance Leaders (PALs) - PALs is a national organization made up of students who care about others!  We are positive role models and are helpful to our peers. PALs focus on community service and help WMS to be a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment.  If you are dependable, kind, communicate well, and like to support or stand up for others, consider applying to be a PAL. This club is a select group of individuals who contribute to a positive school community.  Our club is limited in size.

Some of the activities we organize include 5th grade orientation, tutoring and mentoring, kindness activities, new student tours, staff appreciation, food drives, and many other positive activities.
 

Quiz Bowl - If you like Jeopardy and playing games and having fun, Quiz Bowl is for you! Quiz Bowl is possibly the greatest activity that was ever created for students. We have a fall season coming up in October where we will get the chance to play against other middle school quiz bowl teams in an in-person setting. Students will travel to other schools to compete against other teams using an excellent buzzer system! 

 

Robotics- In the WMS Robotics club, you can learn to design and build robots that can perform tasks and compete against other robots. We’re affiliated with FIRST Tech Robotics, a global organization that provides robot kits and a new game each year that teams compete in. Student Council - Join Student Council if you want to develop leadership skills by collaborating with a teacher advisor to plan and implement school activities and community service projects. Student Council members are positive leaders who are respectful, responsible, safe, and engaged in our school and community. 

All students in 6-8 grade who are interested in becoming more involved in the school community are welcome to participate in Student Council. Student Council activities include reviewing Google Classroom, attending meetings before school, and participating in activities/events the Council sponsors throughout the school year, such as morning announcements, all-school parties, school assemblies, school store, food bank collections, planning spirit days, etc.
